Super Cereal (CSB+), standing for Corn Soy Blend Plus, is a highly standardized Fortified Blended Food (FBF). It is a dry, powdered supplement utilized by major international aid agencies for emergency relief and development programs. The product is formulated using a precise blend of extruded (heat-treated) maize (corn) and whole soybeans, which has been enriched with essential vitamins and minerals and often includes a minimal amount of sugar.
The critical manufacturing step is the thermal processing, which pre-cooks the starches for quick preparation and neutralizes the anti-nutritional factors found in raw soybeans, enhancing safety and digestibility. Nutritionally, CSB+ is designed as a supplementary meal, offering a minimum of 380 kcal and 14.0% protein per 100 grams of dry product.
