Rhinathiol Promethazine Syrup (125 ml) is a dual-action oral cough remedy combining two active ingredients:

Carbocisteine (100 mg per 5 ml): a mucolytic agent that thins and loosens thick, sticky mucus, facilitating easier expectoration—beneficial for conditions like bronchiectasis, COPD, and other forms of productive cough.

Promethazine Hydrochloride (2.5 mg per 5 ml): a first-generation antihistamine with sedative effects that helps reduce irritation, sneezing, and other allergy-related symptoms.

Precautions:

Contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the ingredients, active peptic ulcers, or concurrent MAO inhibitor therapy, and depression.

Importantly, promethazine is now contraindicated in children under 6 years due to potential severe psychiatric and CNS side effects—particularly respiratory depression, hallucinations, or behavioral disturbances.
