Description
B-Lact Syrup is a lactulose solution containing 3.35 g of lactulose per 5 ml—a synthetic disaccharide combining fructose and galactose.
Mechanism of Action:

It’s poorly absorbed and reaches the colon intact, where gut bacteria ferment it into acids. This increases osmotic pressure, drawing water into the colon and softening stool. In liver patients, the resulting acidity helps convert ammonia into ammonium, reducing its absorption and aiding elimination.
Indications:

Relief of chronic or occasional constipation.

Management of hepatic encephalopathy by reducing ammonia levels in the body.
Dosage Guidelines (General):

Adults: Start with 15–45 ml daily, adjusting to achieve 2–3 soft stools per day.

Hepatic Encephalopathy: Higher doses, such as 30–50 ml three to four times daily, may be prescribed.
