Description
Active Ingredient & Formulation
Hactosec contains levodropropizine, a peripherally acting antitussive that suppresses dry, non-productive cough by modulating sensory pathways in the respiratory tract, without central nervous system effects like sedation or respiratory depression.
Each milliliter delivers 6 mg levodropropizine (equivalent to 30 mg per 5 ml). The syrup is clear, colorless, and comes in a 150 ml glass bottle with a dosing spoon and box packaging.
Indications & Mechanism of Action
Used for symptomatic relief of dry or irritating coughs in both children (from age 2) and adults. It acts on peripheral afferent nerves, reducing cough reflex without affecting the central nervous system, offering a safer alternative to opioid-based treatments.
Clinical evidence—including a meta-analysis—demonstrates that levodropropizine is more effective than central antitussives (like codeine or dextromethorphan) in reducing cough frequency, intensity, and night awakenings.
