Description

Active Ingredient & Classification

  • Atrizin syrup contains Cetirizine Hydrochloride, a second-generation H₁ antihistamine at 5 mg per 5 ml of syrup. It is produced by Beximco Pharmaceuticals

Indications & Uses

  • Primarily used for relieving symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (like sneezing, runny or itchy nose, watery eyes) and for treating uncomplicated chronic idiopathic urticaria and allergen-induced asthma

  • It helps ease allergy-related skin reactions such as hives (urticaria), offering relief from itching and rash

Pharmacology & Benefits

  • Acts as a potent H₁ receptor antagonist. Not associated with significant anticholinergic or antiserotonergic effects.

  • At therapeutic doses, Atrizin is less sedating, minimizing behavioral changes, unlike many first-generation antihistamines

  • It suppresses both early and late phases of allergic reactions by blocking histamine and reducing inflammatory mediator release

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults & children ≥ 6 years: 2 teaspoonfuls daily or 1 teaspoonful twice daily.

  • Children 2–6 years: 1 teaspoonful once daily or ½ teaspoonful twice daily.

  • Children 6 months–2 years: ½ teaspoonful once daily; for those aged 12–23 months, the dose may be increased to ½ teaspoonful every 12 hours

  • Always shake well before use, and use a proper measuring device. Follow medical advice for dose adjustments.

Side Effects & Precautions

  • Common: Somnolence (drowsiness), though less likely and usually mild

  • Others: Dry mouth, fatigue, nosebleeds, nasopharyngitis (throat inflammation), cough, fever

  • Warnings:

    • Though non-sedating, some individuals may experience drowsiness—avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if affected

    • Avoid alcohol; it may amplify sedative effects

    • Use with caution in pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor before use

    • No significant drug interactions reported with agents like theophylline, azithromycin, pseudoephedrine, ketoconazole, or erythromycin

Storage

  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from light and heat. Keep out of children’s reach
